For the ordinal-level questions we will (descriptively) present the medians and interquartile ranges. The numeric rating scale items will be presented using means and standard deviations.
Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) for satisfaction regarding quality of life as perceived by relative:
The data will be presented as a mean score and standard deviations.
All analyses will be performed using SPPS 24.0 (SPSS Inc. Chicago, IL).
Achtergrond van het onderzoek
Rationale: An operation is the first choice of treatment in a patient with a proximal femoral fracture. Frail elderly patients are at risk of developing complications in an operative management. It is not clear if surgery leads to better quality of life of the patient. Only a few studies have investigated the effect of nonoperative management of frail older patients. The consequences of the choice of a nonoperative management are still uncertain due to this lack of evidence.
Research question
What are the perceptions about quality of life after nonoperative management of a proximal femoral fracture of deceased frail older people according to their relatives.
Objective: The aim of this study is to explore perceptions about the quality of life after nonoperative management of a proximal femoral fracture of deceased frail older people by their relatives.
Study design: This is a retrospective cohort study of 100 deceased older people who have undergone nonoperative management of a proximal femoral fracture. Relatives of the deceased will complete a questionnaire about how they perceive the quality of life of their deceased family member after the treatment.
Study population: The study cohort consists of approximately 100 patients who have undergone nonoperative management after proximal femoral fracture between January 2011 and June 2019.
Main study parameters/endpoints:
- QODD (quality of dying and death) as perceive by a relative
- Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) for satisfaction regarding quality of life as perceive by relative
Doel van het onderzoek
We expect relatives to be satisfied about the last period of life after non-operative management of the hip fracture.
