Achtergrond van het onderzoek
This intervention will focus on first year students in 12 preparatory secondary vocational education (11-13 years of age) as target population, and their teachers as implementers. The overall programme objective of this intervention is to improve body composition of 11-13 year old students. Secondary outcomes are: improved strength, and (increased motivation to be more physically active after school.
In this intervention, students increase the amount of strength exercises during their physical education lessons with 30%. To help the students through a process of self-awareness related to many aspects of physical activity, also a motivational intervention is added to the programme. The control group continues with their usual curriculum, without extra emphasis on strength exercises in their PE classes or on physical activity motivation. No motivational lessons are given in the control group. After 12 months, students will be measured again in the post measures.
