Achtergrond van het onderzoek
Background
The severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus has caused a pandemic with high infection rates. One of the symptoms of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is smell and taste alterations. Smell and taste alterations can have impact on activities of daily life (ADL) and quality of life (QoL). The long-term impact of smell and taste alterations in COVID-19 patients is yet not fully known.
Main research question
What is the impact of smell and taste alterations on ADL and QoL in COVID-19 patients at six to nine months after diagnosis?
Design
Members of a COVID-19 Facebook group who have been tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus six to nine months before will be included with an opt-in system. These potential participants will fill in an online questionnaire. The outcome will be the impact of smell and taste alterations on ADL and QoL. Next, characteristics of smell and taste alterations will be assessed. In the analysis, a distinction will be made between non-hospitalized and ex-hospitalized patients.
