Achtergrond van het onderzoek
Contextual Factors englobe different physical, psychological, and social elements which characterize the therapeutic encounter. This prospective cohort study will explore the effects of a VR communication training on the anxiety of patients who undergo a colonoscopy under sedation.
Doel van het onderzoek
A therapeutic language and communication training using VR helps OR-staff to diminish patients anxiety levels before going into surgery.
Onderzoeksopzet
APAIS questionnaire is conducted just before the start of the procedure.
The NRS pain score is retreived from Hix and is asked for and registered following standard hospital protocol
The total duration of the procedure is retreived from Hix
Te PSSI questionnaire is conducted in the postoperative ward
The salivary alfa amylase levels are retreived 2 times before the procedure (once at the preoperative ward, once just before start of procedure) and two times after the procedure.

Belangrijkste voorwaarden om deel te mogen nemen (Inclusiecriteria)
All patients meet the inclusion criteria if they are being scheduled for a nonemergent, colonoscopy and/or EGD; having an American Society of Anesthesiologists classification of I or II; being at least 18 years old; being able to speak, understand, and read Dutch; have a score of >11on the APAIS questionary and having the will and ability to give informed consent before study entry.
Belangrijkste redenen om niet deel te kunnen nemen (Exclusiecriteria)
Patients who are unable to complete the study questionnaires due to a mental or cognitive disorder, treated with anxiolytics or who are scored ASA III or ASA IV. Patients who have intra-oral inflammatory disease.
