Doel van het onderzoek
Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) carry an increased risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). To detect and remove dysplastic precursors before progressing to CRC, IBD patients receive regular surveillance colonoscopies with fixed intervals based on risk profiles. However, current guidelines do not take the patients’ preferences into account. Individual preferences have been found to influence uptake in a CRC-screening programme in a non-IBD population. However, preferences of IBD patients regarding surveillance have never been studied. Therefore, we aim to evaluate preferences of IBD patients with respect to present CRC screening regimes in order to improve surveillance acceptability and compliance. We will perform a discrete choice experiment, a choice-based conjoint analysis, to investigate patients' preferences regarding IBD surveillance. This technique will make it possible to investigate which burden of surveillance intensity patients are willing to undergo with regard to (long term) health benefit and make it possible to analyse subgroups to investigate which factors influence patients preferences (e.g. age, education level, bowel preparation).
